Day-to-Day Responsibilities
A Veterinary Technician in the Emergency & Critical Care ICU will primarily provide vital care for hospitalized animals during overnight shifts. Your responsibilities include monitoring high-acuity ICU pets, administering medications, and supporting veterinarians in diverse, high-stakes cases.
You will interpret patient vitals, assist with anesthesia, and perform advanced procedures like managing central lines and catheters. Strong communication skills are essential as you’ll update patient records and coordinate care handoffs between shifts.
Staying organized is crucial, especially when handling emergencies or fast-changing clinical scenarios. You’ll support the animal care team through mentorship and by maintaining safe and sterile work environments at all times.
Assisting with specialty surgeries and post-op care is a regular part of your workflow. Compassionate client communication around treatment plans and patient status also plays a big role in your shift.
